In contrast, recollimating my current production Tele Vue NPis was a $500 trip. Complete clean and service for $185 shipped. This one was not a freebie, but still reasonable. A phone call to Leica and they said send it back. The zoom ring was usable but a bit stiff. I don’t know the exact age on this, it was the original zoom on the Televid. El Freebo.Ī couple of years ago I was able to acquire the older 7.3-22 Leica zoom. Sadly, that design was just commensurate with the rest of the eyepiece.Ī phone call to Leica USA and the replacement was in my mailbox three days later. Nevertheless it broke after four years of heavy use. Being forewarned I was always careful with it. I also recommend not banging your head on the cup while in the up position.Īfter buying my 25-50 eyepiece the fragile eyecup issue came to light. Worth keep an eye out.Īs for cups, the first was caused by the dust cover being a press-release, and me forgetting (every other eyepiece I have is a press fit, and I yank them off without thinking).Īnd fully down on the cup is probably a good idea. Leica service was excellent, and it came back spotless. If there's ambient light, I throw a hoodie over my head. The things are irrelevant to how I observe. For me, it makes sense to put the eye guard fully down, fold it over or take it off. ![]() I have astigmatism, myopia and presbyopia, see whenever possible - for convenience's sake - I keep my eyeglasses on when viewing through eyepieces. I leave all eye guards in the fully down position or rolled back over the edge of the eyepiece if that is possible. Maybe what keeps my adjustable eye guard in good shape is that I never adjust it. Issues aside, it's my most used eyepiece by quite a margin.ĭetritus from the zoom mechanism? It's not made its way down into my Portuguese Leica's lenses. It's also developed a bit of a rattle, which I have not bothered to send it in to get checked, but probably should. I'm also on my third cup, and could use a fourth. It was detritus from the zoom mechanism that had made its way onto the lenses. ![]() My Leica is Portuguese, and it had to be returned for cleaning. ![]()
